<div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on"><img alt="Main Image" class="inlineImageImage" itemprop="contentUrl" src="http://img.thesun.co.uk/aidemitlum/archive/02543/01_30141152_0b44de_2543601a.jpg" /><br /><br /><b>A MURDER probe has been launched after a man was shot dead in Birmingham this morning.</b><br /><br />The 25-year-old took himself to hospital but died shortly after, police say.<br /><br />A second man is in a critical condition after shooting in Soho Hill, Hockley at around 4.30am.<br /><br />Cops  were called after members of the public reported seeing a large group  of men in the road and hearing the sound of a firearm being discharged.<br /><br />Detective  Chief inspector Caroline Marsh, said: “We are embarking on an extensive  CCTV trawl of the area and there is lots of intelligence work going on  behind the scenes in a bid to try and understand what may lie behind the  shooting.<br /><br />“I would appeal to anyone who may have been in the Soho  Hill area at the time and who saw the incident or anything suspicious  to contact West Midlands Police or Crimestoppers.”</div>

<div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on">SHOCKING statistics reveal that one in every 1,000 Brits are registered sex   offenders. <br /><br />The 50,000 criminals that make up the list include rapists, paedophiles and   sex attackers. <br />Worrying figures reveal that there has been a 60% increase in sex offence   convictions since 2006. <br /><br />Experts believe that this is due to breakthroughs in high-profile cases. <br />It’s believed that victims are more likely to come forward to police now that   sex crimes are being taken seriously. <br /><br />A  Ministry of Justice bulletin explained that the increase is mainly due  to   ‘sentencing trends’, rather than an increase in cases. <br /><br />They believe that numbers of people on the sex offenders register have soared   because of harsher sentencing. <br /><figure class="inlineImage  orientationlandscape                                  inlineImage2543568" itemscope="" itemtype="http://schema.org/ImageObject">    <div class="imageWrapper">        <img alt="Handcuffs" class="inlineImageImage" itemprop="contentUrl" src="http://img.thesun.co.uk/aidemitlum/archive/02543/CT0T1N-_M__2543568a.jpg" />             </div><div class="inlineImageStrap">        <figcaption class="imageDetails" itemprop="description">                             Harsher punishments are being given to those who commit sex crimes                                                                                     <span class="credit copyright">                        Alamy                                       </span>                     </figcaption>    </div></figure>The ministry states: “Many sexual  offenders are required to register for long   periods of time, with some  registering for life.”<br /><br />Anyone that’s sentenced for more than 30 months for a sexual offence is put on   the register indefinitely. <br /><br />Even  those who are cautioned or given community rehabilitation for sex  crimes   can be put on the register for up to seven years. <br /><br />Despite  claiming that there are harsher punishments for these crimes, it’s    been revealed that most serious crimes are perpetrated by convicted sex    attackers. <br /><br />Human rights rulings have given some criminals a  loophole to have their name   taken off of the register, making it  easier for them to reoffend. <br /><br />This has contributed to the 40% increase in serious crimes, including murder   and manslaughter. <br /><br />Despite the offender’s register holding 50,000 people and still growing,   thousands of sexual assaults still occur each year. </div>

However, on October 7, my  friend had a court case and I was to appear in court as a witness. The  court was in Agege and I did not have the transport fare to go, so, I  decided to wear my uniform to save me the cost of transportation.”</blockquote>One of the arrested fake soldiers Otu who is a member of the Citizen for  Peace and First Aid Missions in Nigeria, said he heard his friends were  arrested and went to the police to secure their bail, only to be  arrested for wearing the uniform. </div>

News, the accused and the victim are businessmen and  bosom friends from Aba and had come to Lagos to purchase a bus for the  victim, Sunday. When they arrived Lagos, they lodged in the same hotel.<br /><br />According to reports, Loveday who came with the intention of stealing  his friend's N800, 000, woke up in the middle of the night and attacked  him with a cutlass, hoping to kill him. The victim raised an alarm which  attracted the attention of the the hotel staff who came to his rescue.  They were both taken to the hospital where Loveday reportedly jumped  from the hospital balcony and escaped with his friend's N800, 000.<br /><br />The police later trailed Loveday and arrested him in Aba and brought him to Lagos to face prosecution.<br /><br />The suspect was yesterday arraigned before a magistrate court, facing a  three-count charge of inflicting grievous harm, cutting the victim with  cutlass and stealing under the Criminal Code. He pleaded not guilty.<br /><br /> The presiding Magistrate, Mrs J. Ogbomoiko granted him bail in the sum  of N50,000 with two sureties in like sum. He was remanded in prison  custody pending when he will perfect his bail.<br /><br />The presiding magistrate adjourned hearing on the matter till  November 2nd. </div>

People were not arbitrarily locked up in jail or prison, as he  truly respected the rule of law. He signed the Freedom of Information  Bill into law, which was not done by his predecessors; he modernized the  aviation sector; he convoked a National Conference that brought  Nigerians together and proffered recommendations on how to better bind  Nigerians together as one. He sanitized the electoral system of this  country, unlike what we had before him, when elections results were  announced without actually voting, when ballot snatching were rampant  and common place. He brought transparency into the electoral process –  when people could vote and the votes actually openly counted without  violence. Today he stands as the first African president to concede an  election to an opponent, even before the final counts. In keeping with  my character, I cannot say in private what I cannot say in the public.
