POLICE are currently attempting to trace a mum who dumped her baby in a 71-year-old man’s washing machine.
The man went to use the bathroom and when he returned he was shocked to find the young baby among his laundry.
After opening the door of his washing machine, Zainol Hamid, who lives in Malaysia, spotted the baby, which was so young its umbilical cord was still attached.
He said: "I couldn't believe what I was seeing at first, I mean I don't have any pregnant women in my household, so somebody must have sneaked inside and put it in the washing machine."
The incident was so shocking that Zainol didn’t even take the child out of the washing machine, opting to call his nephew instead.
After arriving at the property, his nephew rang the police who arranged for an ambulance to take the newborn straight to hospital.
A police spokesman has speculated about the motives of the person who abandoned the child.
It’s believed that a mum was reluctant to leave the baby outside where it could come to harm, so she panicked and dumped her newborn in the nearest house.
The baby is unharmed, but officers are appealing for any information concerning the mother.
