UK set for snow as forecasters predict October blizzards for only third time in 70 years



SHIVERING Brits could be facing SNOW in under a fortnight as forecasters predict an October blizzard for only the third time in 70 years.

Temperatures will plunge to -1°C as Arctic blasts sweep in, also bringing with them frost and fog.

Scotland is likely to see the worst of the white stuff as the unseasonal easterly winds arrive from next week.

But parts of the south will also see their first snow flurries before the end of the month, forecasters say.

James Madden, a forecaster for Exacta Weather, said: “We will begin to see more of a chillier theme developing as some strong easterly winds begin to exert an influence across the British Isles.

“This will allow for the first real taste of some wintry weather and, during the final third of October, we could see some snow across higher ground of the north and on well-elevated levels in Wales and southern England.”

Snow has only fallen twice in the UK in October during the last 70 years, most recently in 2008.
