YOU might think you’re the biggest fan of the Colonel’s original recipe chicken – but are you part of the ‘club’?
We might be late to the party here, but we had no idea that KFC had a loyalty card scheme, offering free food and exclusive offers to its members.
All you have to do is download the Colonel’s Club app or pick up a card at a participating restaurant, register and begin collecting chicken stamps.
Good news is, you get one just for registering – you then earn one after spending £3 on food and drink and a maximum of two per day day if you splash out £15 in a single transaction.
Three stamps bag you a free side, seven a free snack and 11 gets you £5 off your KFC meal.
That got us thinking, how many other store loyalty cards are out there which many people have no idea about?
We’ve rounded up eight little-known schemes that can help you save money – and bag some free nosh.
Greggs Rewards
Joining the Greggs Rewards scheme means you’re in line for free hot drinks, treats and surprises every time you visit the popular bakery chain.
Members get goodies on their birthday, are entered into a monthly prize draw to win £50 and receive a free coffee for every seven they buy.
Where do I sign up? All you do is visit the Greggs website for instructions on downloading the app.
Every time you make a purchase, scan your phone at the counter – you can even pay using your mobile.
Be aware, certain offers like the free breakfast are only available when you pay using your smartphone.
Ikea FAMILY card
An IKEA FAMILY card enables customers to take advantage of monthly offers and exclusive discounts, as well as a free cuppa every time they visit on a weekday.
It gives members ‘special prices’ for its family range, an extra 10 per cent off sale prices and free product insurance.
IKEA also has partnerships with other companies such as Hertz and Woodland Trust, allowing people with the FAMILY card to enjoy discounts on their services.
Where do I sign up? Visit the IKEA website to fill out an application form.
Odeon Premiere Club
Unlike other cinema membership schemes, this one doesn’t come with a hefty monthly fee – though there is a one-off payment depending on what package you select.
Cinema buffs earn 10 points for every pound spent in an Odeon cinema or online.
These can then be used on tickets, drinks and snacks.
There are three packages to choose from: Classic (one-off fee of £1.99), Deluxe (£4.99) and Ultimate (£9.99).
Just for signing up, members are awarded 100 points, 500 or 1,000 plus double points for your first month, depending on which one you go for.
Where do I sign up? To sign up, activate your card (if you bought it in a cinema) and see what your points are worth, visit the Odeon website.
Hungry Horse – The Gold Card
Simply signing up to the Gold Card will earn you 100 points – enough for a free starter or dessert.
Members also get free drinks on their birthdays, entered into competitions and points for every pound spent, which can be exchanged for free food.
Bear in mind points are only redeemable for a year after they’ve been earned, and you can’t split payments between points and cash – you must have the full amount to cover a meal.
Where do I sign up? Pick up your card in your local branch, fill in the form and hand it into a member of staff.
For more information visit the Hungry Horse Gold Card website.
La Tasca
If you’re in the mood for a bit of Spanish tapas, it’s worth signing up for a La Tasca card.
Members get 20 per cent off dishes on the main menu, as well as special offers on their birthday, drinks deals and additional discounts on special events.
Keep the party reasonably small – the card can only be used when a maximum of eight people are dining.
Where do I sign up? You can either pick up a card in branch or download and register your virtual card by visiting the La Tasca website.
Subway
With SUBCARD, you get points every time you buy something in any participating branch of the sandwich chain across all of the UK and Ireland.
Yet again, points win prizes – 100 gets you a free coffee, 500 a regular six-inch sub, flatbread or salad, and 1,000 an epic 12-inch sandwich.
You’ll also get double points every time you use your card within 28 days of setting up an account.
From there you can earn double points if you visit at least once every seven days.
Be warned though, there is a difference between a registered and an unregistered card.
Not registering it only earns you half the points – and points only stay on the card for a year before they expire.
Where do I sign up? Online, via the Subcard section of the website.
MyWaitrose
One of the greatest perks with signing up to the MyWaitrose scheme is being able to bag a free copy of The Sun.
All you do is buy your selected newspaper and receive the money off the rest of your shopping when you spend over £10.
You can also enjoy a free tea or coffee when you pop in for your groceries, pick up a free copy of Waitrose Food magazine and get 20 per cent off fish from the counter on Fridays.
Where do I sign up? Simply visit the MyWaitrose section of the website to register and read up on the additional perks.
