The Inspector General of Police, Solomon Arase, has described the death of Mama HID Awolowo as a big loss to the country.

Arase said only God could fill the vacuum created by her departure.

The IG spoke while on a condolence visit to the Awolowo family at their Ikenne home, Ikenne Local Government Area in Ogun State, a statement said on Monday.

He was accompanied by the Commissioner of Police, Ogun State, Abdulmajid Ali; Commissioner of Police, Lagos State, Fatai Owoseni; Commissioner of Police, Cooperative, Dorathy Gimba; ACP Bisi Kolawole, and the Police Force Public Relations Officer, AC Abiodun Alabi.

The IG said, “The death of Mama HID has created a big vacuum that can only be filled by God Almighty.
“Mama was a special woman who served God, mankind and our dear country, Nigeria, diligently in all areas. She was an icon and a blessing to this country.”

He promised the family adequate security before, during and after the burial rites of Mama HID Awolowo.
He also reaffirmed the commitment of the police to tackling crimes and social vices in the country with a view to having a “people-oriented policing in the country.”

The police team was received by the children of Mama HID Awolowo and family members, including Dr. Olatokunbo Awolowo-Dosunmu; Revd. Omotola Oyediran, members of the Young Men Christians Association of Nigeria, Anglican Communion Ikenne and well wishers.
